New Nordex 50, 100, and 500 systems combine ice-free precision cooling, automated processing, reusable water, and multi-stage collection to help cannabis and hemp processors scale solventless production.
Belfair, Washington. — August 31, 2026 — Root Sciences, a leading provider of cannabis and hemp processing equipment, today announced the addition of the Nordex 50, Nordex 100, and Nordex 500 cold water extraction systems, available through its partnership with Buffalo Extraction Systems.
Purpose-built for solventless cannabis and hemp processing, the Nordex platform eliminates one of the most cumbersome elements of conventional cold water extraction: ice.
Instead, an integrated glycol chilling system maintains process water between 0–2° C, creating the low-temperature conditions needed for effective trichome separation without the storage, handling, temperature fluctuations, and ongoing consumable requirements associated with ice.
Combined with automated operation, reusable water, controlled agitation, recipe management, and multi-stage collection, the Nordex platform is designed to give processors a more controlled and scalable approach to producing premium cold water extracts.
Cold Water Extraction Without the Ice
Traditional ice water extraction can become increasingly labor-intensive as production scales, requiring operators to manage ice, temperature, agitation, filtration, and multiple wash cycles.
Nordex simplifies that workflow with active glycol chilling technology that maintains process water at 0–2° C, eliminating the need for ice while providing consistent low-temperature conditions for effective trichome separation. Variable-speed whirlpool agitation gently detaches trichomes from fresh-frozen biomass without shearing the plant material, helping preserve cannabinoid and terpene integrity.
“Solventless processors are looking for ways to increase capacity without adding unnecessary complexity to their operation,” said Marcus Tillson, Chief Operating Officer of Root Sciences. “The Nordex platform gives them a more streamlined approach to cold water extraction, with the flexibility to choose a system that aligns with their production needs today and scale as those needs grow.”
Automation Designed for Repeatable Production
For commercial processors, consistency matters as much as capacity.
Nordex systems use a SCADA-based HMI with Rockwell drives to store wash recipes, monitor process conditions, and log production data. Operators can save multiple settings and reproduce established processing parameters from batch to batch.
The automated platform is designed to run with one operator, reducing the labor demands associated with manual-intensive cold water extraction workflows. A closed-loop water recirculation system also enables multiple washes per batch while reducing water consumption and operating costs.
Available in three scalable configurations, the Nordex line supports solventless processing across lab, commercial, and industrial environments. The Nordex 50, 100, and 500 offer progressively greater batch capacities while maintaining the same core extraction technology, giving processors the flexibility to select a system based on their production requirements.
“Nordex was engineered to bring greater process control and repeatability to solventless extraction,” said Yogesh Jhamtani, VP of Sales and Business Development, Buffalo Extraction Systems. “By combining precision glycol cooling, variable-speed agitation, automated recipe management, reusable process water, and multi-stage collection, we can control critical parts of the extraction process within one integrated platform. The Nordex 50, 100, and 500 then allow processors to apply that same processing approach at very different production scales.”
Root Sciences Expands Its Solventless Processing Capabilities
The addition of the Nordex line strengthens Root Sciences’ ability to support cannabis and hemp processors across both solvent-based and solventless production strategies.
Through its partnership with Buffalo Extraction Systems, Root Sciences can now offer a purpose-built cold water extraction platform alongside its broader portfolio of extraction and downstream processing technologies.
The partnership combines Buffalo Extraction Systems’ process engineering and automation expertise with Root Sciences’ experience helping cannabis and hemp manufacturers evaluate, implement, and scale processing technology.
“For us, this partnership is about giving processors access to technology that solves real production challenges,” added Tillson. “Whether a customer is entering solventless extraction production or trying to take an existing operation to the next level, we can help them evaluate the process as a whole and build around the capacity, product goals, and level of automation their facility actually needs.”
